As architects and spatial designers, we’ve all experienced that sinking feeling of walking through a beautifully designed plaza or a bustling corporate atrium, only to be confronted by a piece of generic, uninspired art dumped right in the center.
You know the ones—they’re the installations commuters rush past every single day without a second glance, gathering water stains, dust, and rust because no one factored in long-term upkeep. Early on in our journey, we realized this was a massive missed opportunity for the built environment.
We found most sculpture is too static and lack of maintenance, quickly degrading into a quiet eyesore or a logistical headache for property managers. Instead of actively enhancing the space, inviting people to pause, or fostering a sense of community, they just fade into the background noise of daily life, acting as obstacles to walk around rather than destinations to experience.
